BTC Vocaloid Idol: Round 3 SUPERCELL [Round 2 results posted!]
The original Vocaloid Idol event organized by Yuukai and AmyAnn at the YTC forum was really fun and interesting, so I thought it'd be really fun to have another one on a smaller scale here~!
Overview:
Vocaloid Idol! Essentially what participants will do is do a cover of a vocaloid song based on the theme, then send it in to be judged! There will be 3 judges: myself, Shiropuu, and Machi (Shiropuu and Machi are not a part of YTC forum or BTC. I feel like this way we can get some judges who don't know the participants as well). Individuals are judged on vocal quality, performance, and creativity.
Rules:
-The song participants submit must follow the theme given, otherwise the entry will be disqualified. Whether songs fit the theme can be checked by asking Chiroyo via a PM WITH THE LINK AND LYRICS TO THE SONG. I will not be checking songs that are not sent to be checked outside of this format!
-The entry must use only the voice of the participant! It is a competition of your individual talent, so no using friend's voices in your covers. If the instrumental of the song has some background harmonies in it that you can't get rid of, that's fine, though.
-Each participant may only submit ONE entry per round.
-entries MUST be sent in by each deadline listed! No exceptions!
-Songs MUST be Vocaloid songs. Again, this can be checked with a PM including the song lyrics and link.
-When sending in entries, PM links to both your raw, unmixed vocals, and your mixed vocals with the instrumental to Chiroyo. Unless you do this, your entry will not be accepted.
-Each round, a certain number of individuals will be cut.
-You must sing the ORIGINAL version of the song, with no edits to the instrumental! You can do as many ad libs/harmonies as you like as they might enhance your performance.
-more than one person can sing the same song.
-WHEN NAMING YOUR FILES PLEASE NAME IT LIKE:
[(entrant name)](song name)(raw/mixed).mp3
so for example:
[Chiroyo]Melt Raw.mp3
[Chiroyo]Melt Mixed.mp3
Further questions can be asked either by posting here or via PM! But remember, I'm ONLY CHECKING SONGS VIA PM. If you ask about a song by posting here, I will NOT respond to it :<

Round 1 Critiques
- Round 1 Critiques:
Entrant: Akisame-- Koi wa sensou
Comments:
Chiroyo-- I really like the tone you pulled for this song. It has a lot of emotion in it, and I think you were able to put a lot of emotion into the song. Your voice type also suits the song quite well. While I really appreciate the tone and emotion in it, I noticed a lot of discrepancies with the timing and once in a while with being on tune. I know the song quite well myself, so I can tell where you've gone off time/tune. I'm not sure whether you purposely timed the words a bit differently, but based on what it sounds I think it might be because you didn't learn the song well enough. But I really like the energy and emotion put into the song, and I think if you practiced it a bit more it'd be really great!
Shiropuu-- Your voice is nice and pretty, but you have enough power in it to pull this song off, which I thought was pretty impressive. I think you did great with your interpretation of the song and the emotional part of it, but I have some problems with the timing and mixing. The timing problems might be a factor of the mixing, but I think it also lies with your personal timing. The audio quality makes me think that the audio clipped in the mixing. But overall, great job. I hope I'll get to hear more you in the future.
Machi-- I sound redundant with what chiro and shiro already said, but I can really feel the emotion you sang with and I think it fits the song perfectly. I really have to congratulate you on that, and your voice is so lovely. I think the timing is just a bit off in places, and maybe you're a tad off pitch in just a few places, but other than that, I think you're doing great!
Entrant: Netceer-- Waiting for You
Chiroyo-- I really love the harmonies and ad libs you did for this-- it really enhances the song. The speaking ad libs you did have lots of emotion and they great. I found no problems with pitch or timing, which was great. I can tell you put a lot of effort into the song and my only suggestion would be to relax a little and take more liberties with the song. But that's something that's completely my own opinion on it, so I'd say this is a really great job well done!
Shiropuu-- I think you did great with this song. The mixing, timing, and pitch are all right on, and you did great with the harmonies and ad libs with the spoken parts. I guess the only thing that bothers me is that there isnt' much energy or passion in the song. The speaking parts add more emotion to it, and your tone is fine, but I feel like it'd be so much better if you had more energy and intensity in your singing. I guess what I'm missing is emotion in the singing. Most of the emotion I'm getting is from the ad libs. Other than that, great job, I really liked what you did with this song.
Machi-- I was so impressed with how you sang this. You've done a great job with the song, in particular, the harmonies. I also like the way you mixed it-- the effects you've put on your vocals are enhancing but not too overpowering. Your voice really suits the song, and I love what you've done with the spoken parts. Great job! I look forward to hearing more of your singing in the future!
Entrant: Jasmine-- Magnet
Chiroyo-- Your timing and pitch were mostly correct. You did a good job with harmonies and mixing it. You went slightly off pitch on a few notes, but it wasn't too distracting from the overall performance. I thought you did a good job with your tone, but I feel like it was lacking some emotion. I think at this point, you can relax a little bit and have fun playing around with ad libs and emotional singing with this song. Good job overall.
Shiropuu-- While your timing and mixing is alright, I had some problems with your being out of tune sometimes. It wasn't serious, really, but it kind of takes away from the performance. Your tone was fine, but it was a little dry to me. I think you did a good job on this song, but in the future maybe try adding more emotion to it. You don't have to keep the beat so steady; you can afford to swing back and forth a little and improvise with a song like this.
Machi-- Your voice is adorable, and I think you did a good job singing this song! Sometimes your pitch was a bit off, but it's easily correctible. I think this is a good recording of magnet, but I really want to see more energy and emotion in it. I know you can do it!
Entrant: Jordy-- Yakusoku wo Shiyou
Chiroyo-- You really chose a song that suits your voice very well. I think you're mostly on-time and on-pitch. I think there are just some minor issues with the pronunciation in parts. I really like how calm and simple your voice is in this song, and I think it portrays the song well, but I guess what I want are maybe some harmonies or a few ad libs? It just feels almost a little too simple, to me. I think you did a great job, and it can be finished with some personalization to it.
Shiropuu-- I really like your voice, it matches the song well. There are a few small problems with the timing, but it's not anything too bad and it's not too distracting. I like your tone, but I want a bit more emotion in this. But I'm sure you'll keep getting better, and I think you did a great job with this.
Machi-- I love how your voice sounds with this song! It's so pleasant and calm, and I think you did wonderfully with it. It's really pure and simple, and while I like that, I kind of wish there was more creative liberty in it. I'll look forward to hearing more from you in the next round!
Entrant: Cagali-- SPICE
Chiroyo-- You sound so great in this song, and it really suits you. I like the small ad libs you did and harmonies. Your tone and timing is right on in this song, and I would say everything is almost perfect except that the audio quality is kind of bad. I think if this was mixed better, it would've sounded so amazing. But overall I think it's great.
Shiropuu-- Holy #$%^ on a #$%^ sandwich. You sound great in this song. I think your voice suits it very well, and you made no mistakes in timing or pitch and the harmonies you've done for it are great. Your tone and ad libs are also good. I have to agree with Chiro on the fact that the audio quality is pretty disappointing. But I think if you fixed that this would be great.
Machi-- You did so well singing this song! It suits your voice so well, I love your harmonies and ad libs, and you really convey the emotion of SPICE very well! I have no suggestions on improvement except to fix the audio quality! Good job, and I hope to hear more in the next round!
Entrant: Hikari-- Melt
Chiroyo-- You sound so cute in this song, and it suits your voice well. It sounds like you're straining for the high notes, though, so practice on that! Also, don't be afraid to try some harmonies and ad libs, because although this is incredibly cute, I think it'd really benefit from some more work and depth in it.
Shiropuu-- Your voice is incredibly adorable. While I love how cute your voice is, I was kind of disappointed that you couldn't quite reach the high notes in the chorus of the song. I also want a little bit more energy and effort in this. I think this would sound a lot better if you had more harmonies with your voice instead of just Miku's. But overall, you did good and I want to hear more from you in the next round.
Machi-- My goodness, your singing was so cute! I really love how it captures the image of a shy girl in love that is the subject matter of Melt's originality. I think this is a great start on this song, and it'll be amazing if you can reach those top notes! Also, I would really like it if you had done some sort of creative thing with this, such as ad libs or harmonies. It seems a tad plain with just your melody line, but I still think you did a great job!
Entrant: Akikaze-- Eh ah sou
Chiroyo-- I really like the fact that you did this song in your lower voice and added harmonies. I have a few issues with the harmonies though, sometimes they override the melody a bit. The timing seems just a bit off in places. But the tone you chose for the song is great and it matches it well. The fact that you also used a censor sound was really interesting, and I like that you went creative with it. Just fix up small details in this song and it will be great!
Shiropuu-- You sang the song well, and I like your harmonies, but I think sometimes they were a little bit too loud in comparison with the melody. I also want see a little bit more effort in mixing, because the entire thing sounds kind of naked and a bit noisy to me. It was hard to decide, because Rou also sang Eh ah sou, but I liked the fact that you sang it lower. Good job overall.
Machi-- Your tone in this song is very appropriate for the feeling, and I really appreciate your harmonies and ad libs! I feel like it blends together very nicely, but the mixing bothers me just slightly. I feel like if you just cleaned it up a bit it'd be wonderful!
Entrant: Rou-- Eh ah sou
Chiroyo-- I think the harmonies you did with this song blend really nicely with your melody and the mixing is pretty good. Your tone and timing are very fitting to the song. My biggest issue, though, was in your pitch. While your pitch is consistent, I feel like it's a bit off key by a few notes, for the entire song. This is kind of a major issue with the recording, and I feel like if only it wasn't so, then it would've been amazing. If you just work on your pitch a little bit, though, I feel like the song can be that much better.
Shiropuu-- The first thing I noticed was the fact that you're entire melody line is off pitch a bit. While it's consistent enough to make the listener think it might be that way intentionally, the fact is that it's a bit disconcerting in either case. Everything other than the pitch was good, though, especially the harmonies. They blended really well with your melody line and I liked how smooth they were. Keep practicing and improve more, and I'm sure you'll make the cut next time.
Machi-- Your voice is lovely, and I absolutely love the harmonies you sang for your melody line! Your voice tone and quality are very pleasant and it matches the song well; I think you conveyed the feelings in Eh ah sou very well in this respect. However, I think you're just a tad off-pitch in the entire melody line, which kind of drags the entire recording down, sadly. But don't worry, keep improving and practicing, and I will watch for more from you in the future!
- Round 2 Ballad songs critiques:
BTC Critiques Round 2! Theme: Ballad Songs
Entrant: Cagali—Sakura no Ame
Chiroyo—I think you once again chose a song that really suits your voice. I really like your tone and emotion in the song, but I noticed there are small issues with timing here and there. Overall I think you did pretty well, just focus on correcting the timing issues and you should be good :3
Shiropuu—Well I do think you sang it well in terms of tone and such. I also heard some issues with timing, but I think it’s something that just gets fixed with more practice. In terms of mixing, I feel like at some of the parts where your voice rises in volume as it hits the chorus part of the song, it kind of clips a little? Also, your voice control when it comes to that part as it’s about to hit the chorus, I feel like the contrast between how fast it becomes stronger and louder is a little sudden. But I think you did pretty good, everything I noticed is something that can be fixed with a little bit of practice.
Machi—Your voice is so lovely again in this song! The song really suits you and I think you were able to pull lots of emotion to put into the song! I think the loud notes got a little fuzzy at times, which was a little distracting, but I think that might have been a product of the mixing? I noticed how you changed a few of the notes of the song, and while it was different, it sounded good as well. It sounded wonderful, and I hope I’ll hear more of your singing!
Entrant: Netceer—Orange (?)
Unforunately due to unforeseen circumstances Netceer had to drop out of the competition.
Entrant: Hikari—Senbon Zakura Ballad ver.
Chiroyo—Your voice type—cute and delicate--, really suits the ballad version of this song. I love your tone in this song, and I like the emotion that you put into it. I have no complaints about the timing or pitch; they all sound lovely. I think my favorite part of the way you sang this is tone and emotion you put into it.
Shiropuu—Your voice is so adorable, it makes me wish you were my little sister or something. You did great with the timing and pitch, as well as tone and emotion. Your voice suits the song really well. I couldn’t really tell, did you have harmonies in there? I’m kind of trying to decide whether it would sound better with harmonies or not, because I think it sounds very pure and delicate like this by itself. But anyway, I ramble. I’ll look forward to hearing you again in the next round!
Machi—You sound so adorable and cute in the way you sing this! It’s so delicate, it really evokes the image of a young girl singing by herself. I absolutely love the way you sang this, I have nothing bad to say about it! Please continue to sing more so I can hear in the future!
Entrant: Akisame—Pink Rose
Chiroyo—I like the mixing effects and the emotion in the song, it suits your voice. It sounded to me like your harmonies were a little off time with your melody line, which kind of threw it off a little in the chorus, but I still like the overall effect you were able to achieve. You did a fine job overall and you should sing more ballad songs—I think they suit your voice more than you think :3
Shiropuu—Well while I like the tone you got for this song, I kind of am of a split mind about it. It’s kind of fitting, but I feel like it’s not entirely fitting for the whole song? I think overall it sounds good, but I guess the song choice could’ve been a little bit better? I feel like you did decently with the song, it’s just not the best you could’ve done? That’s just the feeling I get from it, so don’t’ mind me too much. I rather liked the overall finished product, and I appreciated the mixing effects. Your timing and pitch also improved from your last entry. Keep working at it!
Machi—I think you really improved a lot from your last entry! That’s part of what I’m looking for, that people improve as they progress through the rounds, and I think you exhibited a lot of improvement in this round! The harmonies sound good matched with your melody line and I really like the tone you used for this song! Keep improving and getting better!
Entrant: Jordy—Saihate Ukelele ver.
Chiroyo—Your gentle and relaxed voice really matches the song well! I especially liked how you did harmonies for this song, I think it makes it sound much richer and more lovely. While the way you roll your R’s isn’t actually very correct pronunciation-wise, I think it helps display your character in the song. I also really loved the ad libs you did at the end of the song. I love hearing you sing ballad songs, they match your voice so well.
Shiropuu—Man, you really have a nice voice for ballad songs. I like how you added ad libs and harmonies this time, I think it makes it sound much better than your 1st round entry. I guess the only thing I’d really have to ask for improvements on is the fact that you don’t hold certain notes very long? I gues that’s more a matter of personal preference than anything else, but I like to hear some of those notes held a bit longer. That’s all the criticism I have for you though, otherwise, great job!
Machi—I really like your voice type, as it suits ballad songs very well! The addition of harmonies and those lovely ad libs at the end made the song much more personal I think. I like the gentle emotion that the song contains, and I feel like you portrayed that emotion rather well in your singing! I really have no criticisms about your singing this time, and I hope to hear more of it in the next round!
Entrant: Akikaze—Nee
Chiroyo—I think you put more emotion into this song than your last entry, which I really like. I also was quite impressed with the high notes you hit without them sounding too artificial. The mixing was quite nice, with the left-right effects also (I don’t know if you used phaser or not). Your voice sounded nice and clear in this. I guess I would’ve like a few simple harmonies or ad libs in it? But it sounds great just pure like this too. Great job~!
Shiropuu—I think the reverb effects might have been overdone a little bit, but it isn’t very distracting from the nice clear sound your voice produces. I just became about 100 times more confused on whether you are a boy or a girl. The high note you hit is rather clear and impressive. I like the simplicity of the way you sang it. I think you improved a lot since the last round. You did pretty well this time overall.
Machi—Your voice is so lovely and clear in this song! I think you did a great job with song choice. The emotion you put into it is great as well. I really like the mixing and I think the effects compliment your voice well. I would love to hear more from you in the future! I still can’t really tell whether you’re male or female, and I apologize for that, but gender aside you did a wonderful job with singing this song!

Can you give us some examples of ballad songs apart from the ones you already gave us? Q WQ)/ ♥
Re: BTC Vocaloid Idol: Round 3 SUPERCELL [Round 2 results posted!]
;u; I could but that would mean giving away what some of the other people have decided to sing. I'm sorry, OTL.
But you know, a lot of people like to use Kaito for ballad songs, so if you look for kaito songs you might find a lot =u=;
